Allen was once a volunteer at the wildlife sanctuary (2009- 2010) but due to work commitments could not continue volunteering, however, he set up the Humbug facebook page as a way to continue to contribute to the sanctuary. In 2012, Neville Bellchambers stated that if it wasn't for the page, the sanctuary could well have disappeared by now as more than 70% of new faces through the sanctuary have come from learning of its existence through the facebook page!
Allen is still an admin of the page but has added current volunteers to keep the site updated with new information, stories and exhibits.
